The performance celebrates the United States debut of the ground-breaking initiative I SING BEIJING. Founded in 2011, I SING BEIJING is a pioneering program that introduces Mandarin as a lyric language and brings to stage a new expression in the vocal arts by juxtaposing Western operatic traditions with the emerging genre of modern Chinese opera.

Founded by the Office of Chinese Language Council International, China and produced by the Asian Council Performing Council, USA, in 2011, I SING BEIJING has attracted singers from world’s top institutions, who represent talents mainly from the United States and eleven other countries including China.

The concert features scenes and arias from Western favorites by composers including Rossini, Puccini and Bernstein, coupled with a historical tour of modern Chinese opera beginning from country folk opera from the 1940s, to modern classics of the 1950s and 60’s to the most representative vocal works from contemporary China.

This concert will demonstrate the clear similarities and differences of the works, allowing the audience to explore and contrast the music, techniques and sound.

Concert to be held May 7, 2012 features an "East Meets West" program of traditional folk, Chinese opera, and World Premiere contemporary classical music.

Performing a program entitled Dialogue between the Traditional and the Modern, including folk and Chinese Opera works as well as contemporary works by both Chinese and Western composers such as Xie Wenhui, John Mallia, and Victoria Bond, the Chinese Hua Xia Chamber Ensemble (pronounced HWA SHA) makes their Lincoln Center Debut at Alice Tully Hall on Monday, May 7 at 7:30pm.

For Brooklyn Based Artists and Arts Organization
The BAC Community Arts Regrant Program is starting its 2010 grant cycle! Application seminars will be held throughout August and early September; the application deadline for all BAC regrants is September 24th, 2009; applicants will be notified of their funding in January 2010 and funds will be distributed in March of 2010.

Applicants who have not received BAC regrant funding in the last two years are required to attend and application seminar, and all applicants are strongly encouraged to attend. Click here for a full schedule of seminar dates and locations.

Originally administered by the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation (from 1997-2008), the grants are given annually to recognize emerging composers, lyricists, and book writers who work in musical theater.

The foundation's average grant is between $1,500 and $3,000 and is made on an annual one-time basis.

The Working Art Grant is a meager quarterly offering intended to disperse small but vitalizing bursts of funding to those who find our sum would solve a surprising many problems hindering their ongoing art making process. The Working Art Grant is available to all domestic as well as international artists working in all media. As a new stipulation for eligibility to receive the Working Art Grant of $500.00, they ask that each prospective recipient be willing to exchange one of their available works of our choosing and with mutual agreement in return for the award.
