Chinese American Arts Council is pleased to announce the presentation of 2018 The Most Outstanding Asian Artist Award Ceremony and performance is to be held on September 9th, 2018, 1:30pm at Flushing Town Hall.
The day’s event will start with an award presentation ceremony, the recipients of this year are two outstanding Peking opera actors, Fu Xiru and Liu Zheng, who will also perform following the ceremony. The programs to be performed include three renowned classic Peking operas, each has its own unique storyline, music and vocal performance.
Invited artists including the two award recipients are first-class Peking opera performers.

“Wang Jiang Ting” (望江亭)
Starring Liu Zheng, Zhang Quiwei, Yu Xiangwei
To avoid the pursue of a local powerful man, a widow sought asylum in a temple. During the stay she met and fell in love with a visiting scholar. Driven by the jealousy, the powerful man planned to rid of the scholar with a fake order by the Emperor. Finding out the plan, the widow set out to reveal the vicious plan.
“King and I” (遊龍戲鳳)
Starring Fu Xiru, Qin Xueling
This romantic story was set in Ming dynasty. The Emperor often sneaked out to the city and mingled with civilians. While roaming in the city, the Emperor fell for a hostess.
Second Visit to the Empress (二進宮)
Starring Liu Zheng, Fu Xiru, Zhye Xianzhong
This story was also set in the Ming dynasty, about the power struggle deep inside the palace. After the death of the Emperor, young Emperor was sent away by his uncle, who claimed he will oversee the country until the young Emperor’s grown to the adult age. But in fact, the uncle never intended to relinquish the power. Some faithful generals and officials visited the Empress to tell the truth.
