Rongrong Chen
Artist Statement

Ms. Chen, Chinese folk singer, currently she serves as principle singer at Chinese American Arts Council. Known for the clear, pure, and sweet color tone of her voice, Ms. Chen has graced the stage on three continents presenting Chinese folk songs. As a Chinese folk song singer, she established her own trademark by incorporating Western contemporary music with Eastern traditional music. Her outstanding talents and abilities have led her to many performances opportunities in the reputable venues and events throughout the world such as Église Saint-Sulpice in Paris, France, Shanghai Grand Theater in Shanghai, China, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the United Nations, New York Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in the United States.

She won 1st prize awards in China such as The Fourth National “Singing around China” Radio and TV Vocal Music Contest (Folk Song Group) in 2006, The Second Zhejiang Province “West Lake Cup” Singing Competition in 2005. In the U.S., she received the “Most Outstanding Asian Artists Award” from Chinese American Arts Council and “Spirit Award” from New York Mets Citi Field, Award of Excellent Art Achievement, from Global Artist League.

Her recent solo performances include: Chinese New Year Celebration at Lincoln Center David Rubenstein Atrium, China Yunnan Ethnic Arts Festival at the U.N., China Heritage Night at Mets Stadium Citi Field, Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall, The 1st New York Chinese Film Festival at Lincoln Center Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival at Lincoln Center Plaza, Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square and “International Year of Languages Celebration” at the United Nations. Her media appearances include: CBS-2 Morning News, WABC-TV, Sinovision, China Media Net, China Press, Modern Weekly, Singtao Daily, World Journal, Ming Pao.

She was invited to be the grant panelist for the New York State Council on the Arts for FY11 and FY12 as well as a Committee Advisory Board Member for the Lower Manhattan Arts Council.She was invited as a judge for 2011 Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant, The 1st New York Children Star Talent Competition and 2010 SuperBoy Singing Competition (North America Region) presented by HuNan TV.In the USA, Ms. Chen is dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and arts by performing Chinese Folk Songs.

Ms. Chen studied with voice teachers from the Shanghai Conservatory and Shanghai Opera House. She earned a M.A. in Music from New York University. Although her musical training and background is centered around traditional Chinese, her performance and personal music concert encompass both Western and Eastern influences, reflecting much of the music of our time.
