Born in 1971 in Taipei, Taiwan, Chi-Ying Stone Hsieh is a painter, who regards the beauty between people and nature as his main theme. He creates representational landscapes and portraitures that explore the relationship between people and their living surroundings, to depict the spiritual quality in contemporary daily life. Working with both eastern and western painting materials and methods, Stone melds the line, brush’s work and translucent quality of pigment of Chinese painting into his oil painting and represents the depth of spaces well as light and movement.
Stone’s working experience of a decorative painter for an antique/decoration company, with his practice of post-impressionism and study on contemporary art shape his techniques and style. His Christianity forms his aesthetics, which is that, his painting should bring out the message of truth, goodness and beauty. He considers El Greco, Cezanne and Richard Diebenkorn as his references.
