Pingzheng Qian’s body of work explores themes of spirituality, mythology, and cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from a visit to Mount Putuo in Zhejiang Province, China. This experience provided a profound observation of collective devotion, as individuals gathered in worship, seeking moral and spiritual guidance. Qian’s work reflects on the universal human inclination toward belief systems, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries.

Hailing from Kunming, Pingzheng Qian was born into a world steeped in history, with his mother’s career as an archaeologist further deepening his appreciation for cultural heritage. Among the many artistic and historical legacies of Yunnan, the region’s bronze culture has left an indelible mark on his consciousness. From childhood memories to visits to local museums, bronze artifacts have long resonated with him, evoking both familiarity and a profound sense of wonder. This enduring fascination has continually inspired his artistic practice, and through the opportunity of this solo exhibition, his long-cherished vision has finally taken form.

Over the past year, Qian has devoted himself to the creation of this series, channeling his passion for bronze culture into a collection of 11 works. These pieces navigate the intricate interplay between realism and abstraction, capturing the spirit of ancient bronze artifacts through dynamic compositions, magnified details, and richly textured surfaces. Employing distinctive hues, rhythmic lines, and intricate motifs, Qian reinterprets the materiality and symbolism of bronze in a contemporary artistic language.
