Join in the celebration as the New York Chinese Film Festival returns for its 4th annual outing of presenting the best in Chinese cinema. The 2013 NYCFF, presented by the Chinese American Arts Council (CAAC) and the Chinese Movie Channel, CCTV-6, will screen 7 new films from Hong Kong & Mainland China over the 3-day event, and will introduce such celebrated filmmakers and performers as Vicky Zhao Wei, Miriam Yeung, Xiubo Wu and Donnie Yen to New York audiences.
The NYCFF Opening Night film, Vicky Zhao Wei’s box-office smash So Young will be presented on Tuesday, November 5th at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. The remaining films will be presented on Wednesday, November 6th and on Thursday, November 7th at the AMC Empire 25 on 42nd Street and will be followed by Q&As with talent in attendance. The Closing Night Awards Gala will be held on November 7th, at one of New York’s most fashionable venues, Capitale.

NYU and ChineseCUBES announced the first-ever Chinese Character Festival (CCF) in New York, a month-long celebration of Chinese characters that comprise the Chinese language and play a significant role in East Asian language, arts and cultures. Co-organized by Chinese education tech startup ChineseCUBES and New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, the festival spans October 6 to November 3, 013 with opening and closing events to be held at NYU Kimmel Center.

Written and directed by master Jia Zhangke (The World, Still Life), a man widely regarded as "one of the best and most important directors in the world" (The New Yorker), this reflection on capitalist China focuses on four people, living in four different provinces, who are driven to violent ends.

An angry miner, enraged by the corruption of his village, decides to take justice into his own hands. A rootless migrant discovers the infinite possibilities of owning a firearm; a receptionist working at a local sauna is pushed to the limit by a wealthy client; and a young factory worker goes from one discouraging job to the next, only to face increasingly degrading circumstances.

Kunqu Society, co-sponsored by CAAC, will host a Kunqu performance on September 22, 2013, to celebrate the society’s 25th anniversary and honor the late Mrs. Lingwen Wang, a famed Chinese painter and devoted Kunqu practitioner, and her late husband, Mr. Yutseng Wang, a Chinese calligrapher. The event will be held at the Florence Gould Hall at FIAF (55 East 59th Street, New York).
For this performance Kunqu Society has invited three distinguished Kunqu artists from the Suzhou Kunqu Theatre Troupe in Jiangsu Province of China: Ms. Fang Wang, Mr. Wenlin Zhao, and Mr. Chisun Tang. These guest performers will share the stage with our resident artists, Ms. Jiehua Shi, Mr. Dezhang Wu, and Mr. Qinglin Cai, and others, in a program that features scenes from The Story of the White Rabbit, A Man of Honor, and The Palace of Eternal Youth.
Kunqu Society has also invited three musicians from the Suzhou Kunqu Theatre Troupe: the preeminent flutist Mr. Jianliang Zou, drumme Mr. Shilin Xin, and sheng player Mingjun Zhou. They will join our New York musicians Mr. Shirong Huang, Mr. Jingjiang Guo, Mr. Jie Ji, and Mr. Yi Zhou, among other.

The performance celebrates the United States debut of the ground-breaking initiative I SING BEIJING. Founded in 2011, I SING BEIJING is a pioneering program that introduces Mandarin as a lyric language and brings to stage a new expression in the vocal arts by juxtaposing Western operatic traditions with the emerging genre of modern Chinese opera.

美华艺术协会校园行京剧演出将于10日起在布碌仑105公立小学举行，由武生李庆凤（左）及刀马旦刘玉霞（右）演出京剧「扈家庄」。 为了庆祝亚裔传统月，美华艺术协会将于10、11日一连两天下午4时30分在布碌仑105公立小学举行京剧演出，由两位中国国家二级演员武生李庆凤及刀马旦刘玉霞演出京剧「水浒传」的「扈家庄」剧目，除了京剧表演，节目还有纽约中国民族乐团表演以及中国戏曲讲座，让学生在放学后还能来欣赏中国传统京剧之美，并吸取更多戏曲文化知识。
毕业于中国河北省艺术职业学院戏剧系的李庆凤今年23岁，主攻武生的他来纽约近半年已经参加多次演出，不过在亚裔传统月还是第一次表演，化上「扈家庄」角色王英扮相的他8日在记者会开心表示，「来纽约以后虽然表演多次，这次能在亚裔传统月担纲演出更是深感荣幸，很高兴能将中国传统京剧的美，再一次介绍给纽约民众，让老外也能多多了解传统戏曲文化」。
从九岁就开始学习京剧的刘玉霞毕业于中国河北艺术职业学院戏曲系，2006年考进河北省河北梆子剧院以后开始参加演出，主攻刀马旦的她在中国多次巡迴演出都受到广大好评，跟李庆凤之前也合作演出过，头戴角色扈三娘厚重夸张头饰的刘玉霞表示，「这次是第一次参加亚裔传统月演出，其实很紧张，这齣剧目比较多武打对手戏，希望以活泼生动、夸张一点的表演形式，让纽约观众更容易接受京剧，也很希望藉由自己的努力表演，宣传中国戏曲艺术，让更多民众认识到传统京剧的奥妙」。

Concert to be held May 7, 2012 features an "East Meets West" program of traditional folk, Chinese opera, and World Premiere contemporary classical music.

Performing a program entitled Dialogue between the Traditional and the Modern, including folk and Chinese Opera works as well as contemporary works by both Chinese and Western composers such as Xie Wenhui, John Mallia, and Victoria Bond, the Chinese Hua Xia Chamber Ensemble (pronounced HWA SHA) makes their Lincoln Center Debut at Alice Tully Hall on Monday, May 7 at 7:30pm.

The BAC Community Arts Regrant Program is starting its 2010 grant cycle! Application seminars will be held throughout August and early September; the application deadline for all BAC regrants is September 24th, 2009; applicants will be notified of their funding in January 2010 and funds will be distributed in March of 2010.
