Nina Kuo's solo exhibition "Mythical Mosaic" is a presentation of photographic montages revealing the Asian American persona created with archetypal images that respond with expressive freedoms tying in Asiatic geographies, symbols and nuances. These mythologies translate composed forms for our imaginative times. Presented figures are mostly performers, actors, popping out in modern Chinatown and enclaves. They seek meditative spiritual realms, perhaps hiding in alleys or tunnels where ancestors inhabited in secret. See Maggie Cheung, Opera stars, early AAPI scenes and Kuo's Pvt. Danny Chen poster tribute.
Nina Kuo is a Chinese American photographer, painter and multi-media artist experimenting in new realities. Her feminist work deals with Asian arts and, at times, combating racism, social issues addressing the community with insight into expressive possibilities of art. Now she creates multi-symbolic themes and calligraphic shapes while presenting scholars in a surrealistic manner for emotional metaphors in our global society and its cultural ambiguity. This haven of image-making seduces and bridges many idioms of contradictions and surprise. They, the performers are hiding in many tunnels or alleys of our city where our ancestors inhabited.
