| 2014.8.1 | [Aug 1] A Celebration of Jenneth Webster @Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival ....moreJenneth Webster, who served as Director of Community Programing at Lincoln Center for 28 years, passed away on April 10. Under her artistic leadership, Lincoln Center Out of Doors grew into one of New York’s and the country’s most significant outdoor multi-disciplinary festivals. She was tireless and indefatigable in her efforts and ideas for extending Lincoln Center’s community outreach, and was responsible for establishing the beloved La Casita program. From an early age she became aware of the importance of, in her own words, “the impact of living arts on people.” Over the decades, through Jenneth’s efforts, thousands of people and countless performers came together on Lincoln Center’s outdoor spaces to celebrate music, dance, spoken word, and community.

| 2014.5.16 | [May 16] Join us in seeing a new intimate documentary about the Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei at IFC Center (NYC) & more!! ....moreAI WEIWEI THE FAKE CASE a documentary by Andreas Johnsen +DIRECTOR Q&As ALL OPENING WEEKEND+US premiere May 16th at NYC’s IFC Center
A LIFE LIVED IN SILENCE IS NOT A LIFE. Named Best Documentary of 2014 by the Danish Film Critics’ Association
After 81 days of solitary detention world famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is put under house arrest. He suffers from sleeping disorder and memory loss, 18 cameras are monitoring his studio and home, police agents follow his every move, and heavy restrictions from the Kafkaesque Chinese authorities weigh him down. Picking up where Alison Klayman’s Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry left off, AI WEIWEI THE FAKE CASE is more explicitly political, reflecting Ai’s battle against the gigantic lawsuit thrust upon him by the Chinese government in an effort to silence him. Ai Weiwei is shaken, but during his year on probation he steadily finds new ways to provoke and challenge the mighty powers of the Chinese authorities in his fight for human rights and free expression.
The film also features the creation of S.A.C.R.E.D., a new work depicting Ai’s time in prison, which premiered during the Venice Biennale and is now on view at the Brooklyn Museum.

Ms. Tsang's concert is presented under the auspices of the Hong Kong-based Forever Red Project, which she founded in 2012 for the purpose of joining both emerging and established artists to create new combinations of music and art.
Clara Tsang graduated from the Hong Kong Academy, majoring in Music (Cello Performances). Her teachers included Richard Bamping, principal cellist with the Hong Kong Philarmonic; Professor Ray Wang; Timothy Landuer, principal cellist of Pacific Music Orchestra; Gerhard Iberer of the Vienna Philarmonic; Martin Menking of the Berlin Philarmonic; Orlando Cole from the Curtis Institute of Music; Bion Tsang of the U of Texas; Thomas Gossenbacher from Switzerland; Artem Konstantinov of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong; and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Ariel Barnes.
While still a student, Clara participated in various projects with artists, dancers, and musicians. In 2005 she joined the Pacific Music Festival, touring throughout Japan under conductors Jun Markl and Nello Santi, and 2012 she was invited by The Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific in Canada, under the baton of Arthur Arnold. In 2008, Clara gave her first cello recital.
The versatile cellist has also appeared in music videos, live shows and CD recordings of pop singers and music groups of different genres. In addition to cello, Clara has appeared with companies playing the Guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument.
Her passion to bring music to as many people as possible led her to establish the Hong Kong Cellist Society in 2004 and the Forever Red Project, which brings together emerging and established classical, jazz, and other artists to create new music.
Clara's recent Hong Kong recital was "Brahms Addiction," and all-Brahms program with pianist Tea Lomdaridze. www.claratsang.com
Jean Schneider, pianist, began her piano studies at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia at age seven, and by the age of fifteen had performed three times as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition to other orchestral and chamber music appearances, she has presented recitals in the U.S. and Europe, and on radio broadcasts. Jean is Associate Piano Faculty at the Sarasota Music Festival and guest artist faculty at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in New Hampshire. She earned her bachelor and masters degrees from the University of Southern California, a doctorate in performance from Stony Brook University, and studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg as a Fulbright scholar.

| 2014.2.24 | [Feb 25-26] Join us in seeing Hangzhou Yue Opera Company's contemporary opera adaptations--"HEDDA" and "THE LADY FROM THE SEA" ....moreJoin us in seeing Hangzhou Yue Opera Company's two contemporary opera adaptations' US Premiere at NYU Skirball Center! 8:00PM, February 25 - "HEDDA" 8:00PM, February 26 - "THE LADY FROM THE SEA"
An all female ensemble transform two classic Ibsen plays into lyrical adventures, supported by a distinctive musical nature and theatrical stylization that are the strengths of one of the most popular traditional opera styles of China.
“Allows for fresh and fascinating articulations of characters already well-trodden on the realist stage...brings together Ibsen and Yue in ways that add value to both.” TDR: THE DRAMA REVIEW Performed throughout China and Europe, Hangzhou Yue Opera Company's contemporary opera adaptations have been well-received across the globe. Two of their celebrated works will be presented, with one classic Ibsen tale performed each night. The pieces have been adapted to be set in China and their costumes, makeup, symbols, and staging reflect a distinctive Chinese sensibility.
"Hedda" (based on Hedda Gabler) focuses on a highly intelligent woman, recently wed for practicality rather than love, whose jealousy leads her down a path to tragedy.
"The Lady from the Sea" examines a woman in a strained marriage, asked for the first time to truly examine her own desires.
Yue Opera, performed by all female actors, is one of the most popular traditional operas in China. Beginning as a form of storytelling and ballad-singing, it has evolved into a theatrical genre with the addition of dramatic structure and an orchestra. Yue Opera is particularly strong in its lyrical touch, with singing and gesturing as its main acting modes. Its arias follow certain patterns which are delicate and beautiful, reflecting the special aura of southern China.
