WangLing Chou, a native of Taiwan, received her MFA in Ceramics from Kent State University, Ohio, 2007. Chou repurposes recycled trash into bizarre vessels and sculptural forms with an added touch of humor. Her philozoic (love of animals) works mimic traditional Chinese flower-animal paintings using a graphic novel style. Chou’s works reflect the paradox of the intermingling of opposites through various forms and images.
Chou’s works have been shown in more than fifty-seven solo, juried, and invitation exhibitions all over the United States, including a solo exhibition in Wheaton College, Illinois, Samford University, Alabama, Henderson State University, Arkansas, University of Arkansas, Monticello and others. Her works have won eight national awards, including first-place at River Oaks Square Arts Center’s national cup competition.
Chou’s works have been featured in publications including: Hand-Building Techniques by The American Ceramic Society, Louisiana Life, Pottery Making Illustrated, and SEEN by CIVA.
Chou is an Associate Professor of Art at Louisiana College and the holder of the Eugenia Dawson Professorship in Art. She has taught and lived in Louisiana since 2008.
